Kaye Celebrates 33 years in Scouting...

Celebrating Kaye Prentice’s contribution to Scouting over the past 33 years

Over 150 Scouts of all ages, their parents, friends and local dignitaries packed the Parochial Hall on Saturday 21st January afternoon to help celebrate Kaye Prentice’s contribution to Scouting over the past 33 years.

A series of dignitaries and former Scouts took turns to express their gratitude to “this gutsy lady “ as Mayor cllr David Shilton put it. Rev Cannon Richard Awre spoke of her determination, generosity, Christian values and leadership. “Never afraid to speak out and remind me if I forget to say things in Church “ he remarked!. He also spoke of the enduring link that the Church has with the 4th Kenilworth Scout Group.

Former Scouts from the Group, Matt Draper and Robert Wadsworth, spoke of Kaye’s kindness and constant support forf them during their time in the Group. Jemima Busby – the first girl Scout to join the Group – sent a message of thanks saying “I have made so many life long friends at Scouts . Without them and all the work Kaye has done over the years I would be a very different person today”.

Richard Staveley – Kenilworth Scout District Commissioner presented Kaye with the District President’s shield – the highest Scouting accolade in Kenilworth and astonished the audience with his calculation that, whilst she has been Scouting, around 1000 Scouts have been influenced by her. Knowing that she has a phenominal memory, he then invited her if she’d like to name them all.!! Each of the Scout sections then presented Kaye with gift and following a toast proposed by the Group Executive Chairman – Andy Brown, Kaye cut one of 3 cakes that had been commissioned for the occasion.

Kaye said that she was overwhelmed by the number of people who had come saying “ I thought that this was going to be just a small event with no more than 20 people!” To put it simply… …everyone came to say a really big Thank you to a very special lady……
